Smoked Mozarella Pizza in your Electric Smoker

Cooking a smoked mozzarella pizza in an electric smoker is a great way to jazz up a classic dish. Smoking adds a whole new dimension to the flavor of the pizza, providing a smoky taste that will tantalize your taste buds like nothing else.

Instead of the somewhat bland flavors and tastes we’re used to with regular ovens, this approach infuses the cheese and sauce with wood-fire smoke that give it an amazing depth. Not only does it taste fantastic, but using an electric smoker also conveniently replaces using both a grill and oven in your cooking journey.

Honestly, I can’t think of anything more enjoyable than dining al fresco on my own delicious smoked mozzarella pizza! Well, maybe there are another few great ways to smoke food but this is my favorite.

So, today, I have decided to bring you a basic, but very tasty, recipe for a smoked mozzarella pizza in an electric smoker:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pre-made pizza crust
  • 1 cup of marinara sauce
  • 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil or oregano (optional)
  • Wood chips for smoking (such as hickory or mesquite)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your electric smoker to 250 degrees F.
  2. Place a handful of wood chips in the smoker’s chip tray.
  3. Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the pizza crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  5. If desired, add fresh basil or oregano for added flavor.
  6. Carefully place the pizza in the smoker and close the lid.
  7. Smoke the pizza for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove the pizza from the smoker and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

For variation, you can try different meats like pepperoni, bacon, or sausage, vegetables like mushrooms, bell pepper, or spinach, or even different cheeses such as goat cheese or feta. Just be sure to keep an eye on the pizza while it’s smoking, as different ingredients may require slightly different cooking times.

Another variation is to use BBQ sauce instead of marinara sauce, and top with pulled pork, or a combination of bacon and chicken.

Overall, smoking a mozzarella pizza is a fun and delicious way to enjoy this classic dish. The smoky flavor adds depth and complexity, and the possibilities for ingredient variations are endless. Happy smoking!
